Players wishing to register to play for any team within the Monticello Baseball Association must either reside within the boundaries of Monticello School District #882 or they must be attending Monticello Schools. Non-public schools that are located within the boundaries of Monticello School District #882 will be considered a Monticello School.

All registration is done online by clicking on the HOME page and then Registration tab on the left side of the page. It will give you step by step instructions to complete this process. When referring to the grade level, it is for the CURRENT school year.
Age 6 & Under: $45
Ages 7 & 8: $75
Ages 9: $150
Ages 10-14: $185
The family maximum is $370, plus the fundraising fee of $25 for the 2024 Summer Season for families with multiple children.
In order to receive a discount for families with multiple players (only applicable if the $370 would otherwise be exceeded), please email montibaseballassoc@gmail.com and give names of players from the same family so that we can process any applicable discount.
**If your child makes a competitive/traveling team, there is an additional $100 fee for 9U-11U age groups and $135 for 12U-14U age groups.
Competitive/Traveling (MYAS/GOPHER STATE) - Competitive/Traveling teams will play about 16 league games, league playoffs and 2 tournaments from April through mid-July. Games are typically located in surrounding communities including the metro area, but can sometimes be a little further. They also typically have 2 practices per week. Teams also have the option of additional tournaments paid at their own expense. There is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the tournament entry, gate fees, umpires, etc. We will have a AAA team for 9U-14U. Some levels will have a AAA and a AA (or AA and A) team both of which will also play MYAS/Gopher State. Players making this team will be asked for a time and travel commitment due to the limited roster spots. If a travel team is offered for an age group and a player elects to tryout for another community's baseball program, he or she would no longer be eligible to participate in the Monticello Baseball Association for the upcoming year. Please see waiver requirements in FAQs below.
Rec/Quad City- Rec/Quad City teams will play 12-16 games, practice 1 day per week and play 1 year end tournament. Games are played in the surrounding communities of Big Lake, Clear Lake and St Michael. We typically have multiple Monticello teams and will play in a league with teams in close vicinity to us. We will have teams from 4 combined age groups, 9U, 10/11U, 12/13U, 14/15U. Practices can begin in late April and the games begin in mid May and will last through mid-July.
In-House (6U & 8U)- Monticello teams that will only play against teams within our league. We have multiple teams for the in house league for the 8U(coaches pitch) and 6U(t-ball). The season starts in May and will last through June.
Traveling & 13U & 15U Quad City
All league games are in the evening with a start time anywhere from 6:00pm-8:00pm and can be any day of the week, typically Monday-Friday. Tournament games are on the weekends and can start at any time on either day.
9U & 11U Quad City
Games & practices are typically on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
8U
Games & practices are 2 days per week beginning at 5:30 pm
6U
Games & practices are one day per week beginning at 5:15 pm
2024 Evaluation Information
Evaluations for 2024 will be held on March 16 at the Monticello High School Fieldhouse (East Entrance).

If your child would like the opportunity to be selected for a traveling/competitive team, he/she would be required attend the evaluations. If this is not of interest to your child, they are not required to attend evaluations and will be placed on a rec team.

**Alternate evaluation dates are not always available and will be scheduled as necessary. Please email the MBA as soon as possible if unable to attend tryouts.
***Players who have registered for tryouts and cannot participate due to an injury or illness may be excused, prior to the start of the tryout session. The board will review these unique situations, and a decision may be rendered based on a variety of factors and input relating to previous experience or precedence, past or present coach input, or many other potential factors relating to past participation in our program. These situations should be avoided whenever possible, and ultimately will be assessed by the board.
The tryout evaluators are from the Monticello High School Baseball staff and youth baseball experts all of which are independent from our association. These evaluators have a background in coaching and playing baseball at a high school level or above. Each AAA team will have 11 players and the In-House/AA teams will have 11+ players depending on numbers. The players are scored on a scale from 1-9 in pitching, fielding and hitting. We have one evaluator for pitching (2 categories) and two each for fielding (three categories) and hitting (three categories). The total number of categories a player is evaluated on would be 15 with a maximum score of 9 points in each.
All players will be given a score based on the following:
Pitching (one evaluator): Form/Accuracy/Arm Strength/Mechanics
Hitting (two evaluators): Mechanics/Contact/Power
Fielding (two evaluators): Catching Ground & Fly Balls/Fielding Form/Throwing Form
Each player will get to throw 6-8 pitches to a catcher, see 8-10 strikes in the batting cage from the pitching machine, 8-10 front toss pitches, 6 ground balls from a machine and 3 fly balls thrown by a volunteer with a baseball background. The 9-14U players will be asked to field a fly ball and ground ball coming straight at him/her, moving to the right and moving to the left.
Players attending the tryouts will be required to use a bat with a weight to length ratio applicable to their age group. Our association will have the required bats available to all tryout attendees. Please refer to the link below for the current bat weight differential information only.
The general percentage breakdown would be as follows:
Pitching 20%
Hitting 40%
Fielding 40%
Initial tryouts and callbacks will all take place on the same day at the Monticello High School Field house. Once the first round of tryouts is complete, we will post on the website the call back list consisting of the top players based on their tryout scores. These players will return later in the day for a more in-depth tryout.
The top seven scoring players for their age group will be an automatic selection for the AAA team. The final four roster spots will then be selected by the AAA coach from the players who return for callbacks later in the day. None of the players will know if they were in the top seven prior to the callback tryouts.
After the AAA teams are complete, we will use the tryout scores to form AA teams and so on, if applicable. A minimum number of players must be registered to create multiple traveling teams. For example, there needs to be a minimum of 22 players registered for competitive in order to create 2 traveling teams. All players not selected to a traveling team are automatically put on a recreational (Quad City League) roster.
*The MBA executive team reserves the right to have final approval on all travel teams, whether coaches pick or top 7.
**Coaching selection: Everyone is encouraged to apply for a head coaching position at all levels. We require a background check and concussion training for all coaches.
Potential 9u-14u traveling team coaches must register as a coach no later than 3/1/24. Coaching registration can be found under the registration tab. If deemed necessary by the board, each potential new head coach for a 9u-14u traveling team (AAA/AA) will be required to interview with the Head High School Baseball coach and his staff. If you have coached in prior years, you do not have to interview. Following the interviews, the High School coach will make a recommendation to the Monticello Baseball executive board as to who should be the head coach for each traveling team. The entire board of directors will then vote on whether to approve this recommendation. Interviews for traveling team head coaches will be conducted the beginning of March and coaches will be selected shortly after. The MBA does not sponsor or organize Fall Baseball teams. It is done through the Gopher State Baseball (MYAS) organization both as a team or individually. Our organization will support individuals within our program with information, assistance, and the use of equipment. Even if you are not a current coach, but are interested in forming a team, we will assist you in what needs to be done to put together a team.
